Personal Statement:My approach for tutoring, whether it has been with my peers or with younger children, has been to make the individual feel as though they have my complete and devoted attention. Tutoring takes patience, dedication and respect for the student. Essentially, the student is depending on the tutor to provide understanding so they may successfully fulfill their needs in such circumstances as passing there class or to complete homework or to simply give them a sense of pride in the fact that they are just as intelligent as the other students are. Tutoring is more than just showing a student how to solve a problem. It is the responsibility of the tutor to show the student how to develop problem-solving strategies. It is also their responsibility to show the student how to become comfortable with their work and to eventually become fearless of their subjects. My method allows students to slowly become more dependent on their own particular skills. Tutors should allow there students to feel more confident at the end of every session rather then leaving them in confusion and frustration. No matter what the methodology, students turn to tutors in situations such frustration, unable to obtain the attention needed in the classroom, or simply needing individual and one on one guidance because of fear from asking questions in the classroom. As a student, I was lucky to have wonderful teachers whose methods were applicable to both the classroom and to the real world today. It is my responsibility as a tutor to provide students with the same as advantages as I had.
